Winching dock upward
images from the lunar eclipse
Last night when i read there would be a full lunar eclipse i found
my big lens and tele-extender (850mm).
Fortunately, the eclipse started around 10:30pm and proceeded over
several hours, so i had time to recall how to use all the gear.
The action started slowly, with a slight darkening of the moon edge.
Clouds moved in and obscured the moon for some minutes…
Then the moon became blood red for maybe an hour,
after which the moon transitioned to black and white in the reverse process.
Here is is explanation i found for a lunar eclipse and the red color:
https://www.space.com/blood-moon-lunar-eclipse-may-2022-guide:
When a total lunar eclipse happens, it passes into the umbra or deep shadow of the Earth. Light from our planet is refracted around the edges of the atmosphere and falls upon the moon’s surface. That’s where the red hue comes from.
More simply put, you can imagine the sunsets and sunrises of our planet being reflected upon the moon’s surface; as the sky looks redder during this phase of the day, that is another way of explaining why the Blood
Moon color happens.
