Lively crowd fishing silver salmon on Seward city shoreline

Quite the scene for Labor Day weekend. Locals excited the silver salmon showed up here in the past few days, as the red (sockeye) salmon were a no-show this summer in much of Alaska. Talked with people working on putting away 50pounds for their family for the winter.

We were surprised the shoreline is wall-to-wall camper sites (city-owned, with a ParkMobile-like pay system.) We learned the former canneries and industry were destroyed here in a 1964 9.2 earthquake, then it was deemed unbuildable.

Hundreds of people, families, fishing, mainly from around here, and the 5-10lb salmon are jumping!
